LISTERHILLS AA

The last day of the coarse season on rivers is March 14. After this date there is no fishing on rivers until the first day of the trout season on March 25. Canal anglers in particular are requested to take special care and ensure that landing and keep nets are checked and dried after each session. This is to stop the spread of the invasive species Demon Shrimp, which destroys the native species of shrimp and fish spawn. There will be a working party at Pilley's on Saturday, March 21. Any assistance, even for a brief period, will be greatly appreciated. Final positions in the winter series: winner E Harrison, runners-up D Jackson, G Reeday. Weights were lower than previous seasons. Pike anglers on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal have met with success, mostly from fish in the 4lb to 6lb class. However, there was one of 2½lb in a three-fish catch. All fish fell to bread bait.

BRADFORD No1 AA

Howard Foster won the final open match of the season at Cowthorpe on Sunday with seven chub and a barbel for 27lb 1oz. Gavin Mitchell claimed second place with 21lb 3oz of chub, followed by Bob Newby with 19lb 9oz and Eric Wright with 14lb 3oz. Widdington Hall will be closed on Saturday for an outside booking. This Saturday is the final day of the river season, which reopens on March 25 for trout or June 16 for coarse fish. There will be a working party at Raskelf this Sunday to remove any fallen branches and general peg maintenance. Anyone willing to help out should meet at the lake at 10am. Knotford is now starting to produce catches of carp, tench and bream as the water temperature rises. A limited number of night permits for Knotford and Kirklees are still available from the ticket and licence secretary or online.

SKIPTON AA

Coarse fishing on local waters this season can only be described as being average, with no particular specimen being reported. The canal certainly produced plenty of roach, perch and bream but nothing of note. On the River Aire, there were signs of a chub revival, with the capture of quite a few smallish chub in the Skipton length, together with a decent head of grayling, including the odd fish to over 900g (2lb). Pike numbers seemed to have made a slight recovery on the Snaygill length, with one fish over 16lb having been caught recently. Roach, bream, dace and ruffe have yet to make an appearance but perch and the odd gudgeon have occasionally turned up in catches. Hope is high at Whinnygill Reservoir where record ide, roach, carp and bream have been caught in the past year. Both the roach and bream appear to be one-fish wonders whereas the ide and carp are new fish to the water and are setting new records as they grow. Catches of bream and roach may show a steady improvement this coming year following the recent introduction of 1,150 fish.

HEWENDEN AC

Result of the final coarse match for this season: 1 Paul Kitching 8lb 1oz, 2 Nigel Bower 7lb 13oz. Congratulations to Nigel Bower, who is the overall winner for the season. The new season's matches begin in April. We do seem to have our share of cormorants, however as we can only fish from the near bank the catch rates are increasing when the pole system is used.

BRADFORD SEA AC

Our next meeting is the annual trophy presentation evening on Tuesday at the New Inn, East Bierley BD4 6PP, beginning at 8pm, for all members who have done well throughout the last 12 months. Please try to attend as it promises to be a good night, with a few laughs along the way, and there will also be a buffet. We have managed to book extra trips for October, November and December, fishing out of Grimsby, and you can book on any trip at the meeting.

GREAT HORTON AC

Our first match of the season was on Sunday, March 8 at Far View, Cottingley. K Nouch caught a fine perch weighing exactly 2lb but O Hudspith caught a better one (2lb 15½oz). The next match is at Poppleton on The Horse Shoe Lake on Sunday, March 29.
