BRADFORD teenager Emelye O'Brien is a triple European champion.

Not only did the Farsley-based Leeds Karate Academy member win the junior female individual kumite 16-17 years crown, she was also part of two triumphant teams in Denmark.

Emelye partnered clubmates Ashley Scott and Melissa Finlay to Copenhagen glory in the team event, and added a third gold in the junior female team kumite to become the most successful athlete in the championships at the discipline.

Leeds Karate Academy members made up half of the 18-strong JKS England team, and England captain Scott regained the individual kumite title on the way to winning the competitor of the tournament award.

Richard Fewkes became the fourth Leeds member to take gold in Copenhagen – in the veterans' male kumite 40-49 years category, and Tom Mitchell and Oliver Deane, along with Zach Sharp, won the junior male team kumite award.

The Farsley club also came away with a haul of bronze medals, such as Joe Hart, Stephen Brown and Craig Williams in the senior male team kumite, Finlay in the senior female kumite, Deane in the junior male kata and James Brown, alongside Williams and Lee Lamb in the senior male team kata.

JKS England head coach Matt Price, an instructor at Leeds Karate Academy, said: "It was a fantastic performance by all the squad. Every member brought back a medal – an amazing achievement."
