LISTERHILLS AA The club has extended its length on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, from bridge 217 at Rodley right down to where it enters the River Aire in Leeds. This is for adult members, with concessions for juniors and senior citizens. Last Saturday’s open match at Calverley was fished in continuous heavy rain: 1 D Stephenson 3lb 7oz, 2 E Harrison 1lb 11oz, 3 M Mannion 1lb 7oz. Dates for future matches: Pilley’s members’ match this Sunday – gate opens at 8.30am, draw 8.45am; Evening League – Tuesday, draw 5.45pm; Rodley Open – June 7.
KEIGHLEY AC The river Aire has been fishing well despite surging water levels caused by heavy downpours. We have received a number of reports that chub and barbel have become more responsive following a rise in water temperatures. While anglers continue to observe the seasonal ban on maggot baiting on the river, many have turned successfully to lugworm and bread to lure a variety of fish to their landing nets. Last year saw a significant rise in trout and grayling catches locally and it seems that word is getting out that the Aire is becoming a quality beat for the sport of fly fishing.
