It was a great week in the Bradford Table Tennis League for Division One title-chasers Police, who extended their lead over defending champions Highdale A.

Both teams faced difficult trips which had contrasting outcomes.

Police faced a full-strength Dewsbury Sedbergh, but Tim Dyson, John Chew and Shahriar Masoudi produced a superb team performance to whitewash their opponents, dropping only three games in the process.

Highdale A met Dewsbury Tog and, for the second time this season, they came away empty handed.

Tony Bottomley and Richard Lightowler took three each, while Steve Kosmowsky added a single in a 7-3 victory.

Police now have a 28-point lead, with Highdale having a game in hand but a lot of catching up to do.

Division Four Laisterdyke B's lead at the top was cut to just two points after losing at home to Hermits H.

The visitors raced into a 5-0 lead and finished 7-3 winners, with Zarnab Jamal unbeaten and Tim Moran and Kath Manogue winning two each, while Mohammed Murtaza rescued a couple for Laisterdyke, who have Rastrick hot on their heals.

Meanwhile, Bradford table tennis has been shocked by the death of league treasurer Brian Hall in hospital, after a short illness.

Brian had a long playing career with Salem and has looked after the league's finances since 1987.

The funeral will take place on Monday at Nab Wood Creamatorium at 2.40pm.
