Courtney Rivers-Gallagher won a bronze medal in her first World Union of Karate-Do Federations European championship competition in Sheffield.
The 14-year-old Thornton Grammar School pupil joined over 1,500 entrants from 21 countries in the four-day event at the English Institute of Sport.
Rivers-Gallagher is part of the Amateur Martial Association national karate squad and trains twice a week with UK coach Peter Allen in Bury.
She has been in the national squad for a year but this was her first attempt at a European championship event. She also performed at the opening ceremony in front of 2,500 people.
