Boston Spa-3 0, Bingley Bees 2
Bingley Bees men backed up their pre-match confidence in Yorkshire Men's Division Five North at Boston Spa Thirds.
From the opening minute, the hosts were on the back foot as the Bees kept possession well and camped solidly in Spa's half.
Twelve minutes in, Joe Manning picked up a loose ball in the D and fired past the keeper, but it took a defensive error to allow the Bees to double their score in the 32nd minute.
A poor crossfield ball was pounced on by Manning, who drove swiftly toward goal unchallenged and lifted the ball neatly over the prostrate keeper.
The Bees continued the pressure in the second half, but were unable to extend their lead, despite a number of chances.
However, 2-0 proved enough, with the Bees keeper only called on a couple of times to make a save.
Bingley Bees 1, Sheffield Hallam-2 3
Bingley Bees made a strong start to their third league game of the season in the Yorkshire Women's Premier Division and had numerous chances to take the lead, being foiled by excellent goalkeeping and a slightly off-target radar.
There were no goals in the first half but the hosts were then made to pay for their misses when Sheffield took a two-goal lead with deflected shots.
Bingley worked hard in the heat, with special praise to the midfield of Sarah Kellett, Rachel Holdsworth and Emma Hinkles, who picked up all the votes for player of the match, with Hinkles winning it.
The hosts' persistence was rewarded with a fantastic rising shot from Mel Burgess following a penalty corner, and they came close to an equaliser before the temperature took its toll and Sheffield claimed a third to end Bingley's hopes of a first win.
Batley 1, Bingley Bees-2 4
Pumped from the off, Bingley Bees second team were soon ahead in this Yorkshire Women's Division Four derby.
Sian Porter slipped the initial goal past the keeper in the first quarter following a rebound strike from debutant Ciara.
This was quickly followed by Porter’s second goal, which she pushed to the back of the net after Ciara had shown her Leeds Carnegie background by raising the ball to the crossbar.
Bees captain Janice Reid, urged the team to keep their composure during her half-time chat and the third goal was a result of working the ball through the opposition from defence to midfield, where Reid pushed the ball left for player of the match Porter to secure her hat-trick.
Soon after, Reid took a free hit outside the attacking 25 straight into the D and Porter just managed to touch before it went into the net, making it 4-0.
In the last ten minutes, the hosts went for it and got the ball under the goalkeeper’s feet for their only goal.
Midfield worked hard throughout and the forwards had some brilliant support from the defence. Past captain Lucy Walsh and defender Lesley Brian, in particular, used their communication skills to help the team work together.
But Rachel Fuller still showed why she was the players' player last season with a couple of amazing floor-sweeping saves.
Bingley Bees-2 0, Slazenger-2 8
Bees Seconds, playing their second game in as many days, paid for having very tired legs on Sunday in the first round of the Yorkshire Hockey Association's Yvonne Horner Shield.
The Bees soon fell behind and, against a very solid display, lost 8-0, stand-in goalkeeper Steph Robertshaw being an easy choice for the Bees' player of the match.
