Bingley Bees men started their season with a fine 4-2 win against Ben Rhydding Sixths in Yorkshire Men’s Division Five North.
The hosts had the majority of possession in the first half at Bradford Grammar School, and it only looked like a matter of time before they opened the scoring.
However, Ben Rhydding’s keeper had other ideas and made a number of saves from well-worked attacks.
But he could not turn the tide, and it was no surprise to see Jack Matthews tap in the first goal from a cross to the far post in the 21st minute.
Surprisingly, that was the only goal of the first half but nine minutes into the second half, Bill Livingstone took advantage of the time allowed him by the defence and picked his spot for the second goal.
Rhydding hit back with a well-struck short corner but Bees got their third in the 23rd minute with a reverse-stick shot from Livingstone.
The visitors again pulled one back but Robbie Manning sealed victory in the 32nd minute with a looping shot.
Bingley Bees women went down 3-0 at Hull University in the Yorkshire Women’s Premier Division but the second team beat Harrogate Fifths 3-1 at Bradford Grammar School in Yorkshire Women's Division Four.
The Bees took only three minutes to take the lead via Sian Porter as Janice Reid and Clare Watkins took a firm grip of midfield.
However, Harrogate equalised after an error during a substitution but the Bees took command in the second half, scoring through Reid and Porter.
Jules Carroll (voted by Harrogate) and Porter were the Bees’ players of the match.
