Bradford Dragons have scopped an end-of-season double.
Vilma Jurgaityte has been named as vcars.co.uk Division Two North women’s player of the Year, while Mark Gunn is the vcars.co.uk Division Two Women’s North coach of the year.
Bradford Dragons’ women’s first team had a fantastic debut season, despite being a relatively unknown team at senior National League level.
The players also earned praise for helping establish Dragons women’s basketball, supported by the University of Bradford, by winning the vcars.co.uk Women’s Division Two North title and Women’s National Trophy.
Gunn said: “Vilma thoroughly deserves the recognition from England Basketball for her impact in the league this season, and it’s great for the development of the Bradford Dragons women’s basketball programme, and all the first-teamers’ hard work over the past year, to also be acknowledged.”
Such team effort was further rewarded as the higher education student women’s basketball players were also awarded the University of Bradford Union Athletics Union 2012-13 Team of the Year award.
For anyone looking to give basketball a try, the women’s basketball summer workout sessions continue at Bradford College Sports Hall (Trinity Road, Bradford BD5 9JE) on Thursdays (7:30pm– 9pm at £3 a session).
These sessions and are open to all females aged 16 and over, whether you are interested in trying a new sport, returning to the game or looking to keep in shape during the post season.
They started last month and will continue through to Thursday, August 29.
