Baildon Jitsu Club have won the national team shield for Junior Jitsu for the seventh year running at Walsall Judo Centre.

The achievement made instructors Raj Soren and Graham Williams, plus club manager  Jyoti Soren, very proud, especially as the first place was gained against 19 other clubs.

Baildon won nine golds, eight silvers and 12 bronzes, as well as sixth fourth places.

The medal tally was: Luke Briggs, two gold; Amy Spence, two gold; Daniel Netherwood, gold, silver and bronze in open; Chandni Soren, one gold in open, plus silver and bronze;  Tom Deacon, one gold, one silver; Farhaan Mahmood, one silver, one bronze; Sebastian Berko, one gold, one silver; Adam Mahmood, gold; Rizvan Faisal, one silver, one bronze; Romano Turtkatova, one silver, one bronze; Curtis Hanson, one silver, one bronze; Aaron Fiaz, two bronzes; Amaan Shaffi, two bronzes; Zahra Sultan, two bronzes; Ayshah Ahmed, bronze; Suraj Soren, bronze.

Fourth places: Stanley Bradbury (two), Aadil Mahmood, Nathaniel Taylor, Haris Sultan, Faizan Sheikh. Medal of attendance: Lukhi Soren, Artur Sobolevski , Sam Bryan , Faye Briggs, Victor Bradbury, Sameer Sheikh, Ned Hawker, Jacob Whiteley-Guest, William Spence, Jackson Laing-Richardson, Xavier Mirza.

Five Baildon Jitsu Club members from Clock House - Bradford Grammar School's junior section - won five medals, including retaining the prestigious overall Club Trophy, in a National Randori Competition at the University of Wolverhampton.

Tom Deacon won a gold and a silver, while fellow eight-year-old Rizvan Faisal took a silver and a bronze.

Schoolmates Jacob Whitely-Guest, aged ten, Sam Bryan, eight, and Nathaniel Taylor, nine, were also competing.

Senior club Sensei Raj Soren said: “We are incredibly proud of all our kids who have represented the club.

"Every one of them showed great determination, bravery and team spirit – from our young Samurias right through to our Black Belt Dans.

"Ju-Jitsu training gives the kids confidence, discipline and they are able to protect themselves. Most of all, it’s great fun and our club has a wonderful social life."

Any juniors aged from four to 16, who would like to try Ju-Jitsu should come along to one of the club’s training sessions.

Baildon Jitsu Club trains at venues such as Titus Salt School, Bradford Grammar School (from 9.30am most Saturdays), Beckfoot School, Cafe West, Ice Skating Arena and number of other venues.
