Keighley’s Leah Moorby completed a superb year by scooping the ‘Promise for the Future’ award at her club’s annual presentation in Doncaster.
Leah, whose club Team Ultimate finished the year with an impressive 11 British champions, was called into the Great Britain development squad in September.
The Holy Family School pupil has recently been selected to join an elite band of fighters for regular Sunday training sessions at GB headquarters in Manchester.
Leah is the youngest member of the ‘invitation-only’ group and has been singled out to train with her older peers.
Team Ultimate coach Kathy Hook, a former Olympian, said: “Leah has had a great year.
“She has given 100 per cent and her rate of improvement has been superb. She can look forward to a big year in 2013.”
With the Cadet European Championships in Romania in August, GB have named three events as part of the selection criteria.
Leah has already won gold in the first one – the Park Pokal in Stuttgart, Germany – with the Belgium Open in April and Austria Open in June to come.
Her father Gary, who used to coach Keighley Cougars and travels with her to competitions, said: “Leah is now preparing for the first domestic competition of the year, the NTC Championships in Nottingham on January 27.
“With the European Championships taking place this year, Leah has every incentive to continue her progress.
“She will be focusing on the major competitions to gain even more experience, with Belgium and Austria the priorities.”
