RIGHTLY or wrongly, Jack Shepherd’s wonder goal against Gillingham did not earn him Sky Bet League Two’s Goal of the Month for October.
Instead, Walsall’s Jamie Jellis collected the award for his sumptuous volley in his side’s 4-1 victory away at Grimsby on October 19.
Both goals were out of the ordinary, but centre-back Shepherd will feel hard done by having seen his left-footed effort in the 2-1 win against Gillingham not take home any prizes.
The ball fell to the Barnsley loanee on the edge of the box, and after watching it fall from the sky, he unleashed a ferocious volley with his left foot into the top left-hand corner of Gillingham’s goal, which proved to be the match-winning strike.
Jellis’ effort was of similar quality for Walsall, however, the technique required to dispatch Shepherd’s chance flush on the volley was arguably harder than that of Jellis’.
