GRAHAM Alexander is not getting wrapped up in the League Two table after City blew the chance of regaining a play-off spot.
The Bantams switch their attentions to the Bristol Street Motors Trophy tonight with the final group game against Rotherham.
But they are still sore over Colchester’s last-gasp leveller at the weekend which saw two points dropped deep in added time.
City would have been back in the top seven with a win – but boss Alexander insists league places are not high in his thinking at this stage.
“We have to pick up points and the league table is a barometer of how many you’ve got compared to everyone else,” he said. “That’s quite obvious.
“But the league position isn’t the most vital thing right now. It’s totals of points.
“You get nothing for being second, seventh or 10th right now. You’ve just got to keep adding to your tally and that’s the biggest thing for me.
“Obviously you want to keep as close as you can to where we want to be and seeing where that gap is at the moment.
“We get really close then we drop off. But we have to stay in the fight.
“We have been that team for 20 games or so if you go back to last season.
“I believe over the course of the season with a little bit of fair weather with players we’ve enough to get where we want to be.”
Lewis Richards is the latest absentee with a shoulder injury from Saturday.
Alexander is preparing to make changes again for the Trophy tie against the League One Millers.
Both sides are already through but home advantage for the first knock-out stage is up for grabs.
A win would see City overhaul the Millers for top spot of Group H – and guarantee a Valley Parade tie in the round of 32.
Alexander added: “Games are always good and lads who have been chomping at the bit to play more regularly will get that opportunity.
“We’ll put out the best team we can to win the game and approach it in the right way.
“We can’t feel sorry for ourselves about all the injuries and stuff like that. We just have to crack on and put out a competitive team.
“Whatever team we pick, we’ll expect a strong performance from them because they are good players.
“There’s always an incentive to win and it’s always good to feel good. We want to win the game and the group – there will be nobody happy if we don’t.
“We’ll see how the boys are and probably leave (naming) the team until the day.
“We’ve got to see what physical shape the players are in. They put a lot into the Colchester game and we haven’t got as many players to change as we probably have done in the past.”
Jay Benn could be one of the weekend starters to stay in the team.
He said: “We’ve got to see it as a chance to bounce back. I know it’s in the Trophy but it’s still an opportunity to get a win and build morale in the dressing room.
“We’ve been tough to beat at home and we’ve got to keep that as our foundation. It’s got to stay that way, especially if we aren’t getting the results away.”
CITY (possible): Doyle, Diabate, Huntington, Shepherd, Benn, Smallwood, Evans, Oduor, Sanderson, Oliver, Smith.
