ANDY Cook can count himself unlucky not to be named as the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for October, with the City striker pipped to the award by the man who is seemingly his main rival for the Golden Boot this season.
The striker scored four goals in six games last month, with the highlight being his expertly-taken double at Tranmere, which sealed City’s first away league win since the opening day.
And his consolation strike against Doncaster just under a fortnight ago was his 80th in claret and amber.
It made him the outright fifth top goalscorer in City’s history, overtaking John Hallows, Joe Cook and Sean McCarthy, all of whom found the net 79 times for the Bantams.
Cook is currently League Two’s top scorer in 2024/25, with eight goals in 14 games, but Chesterfield’s Will Grigg is hot on his tail with seven.
And based on last month alone, Grigg was probably the deserving winner of the PFA prize.
He found the net six times, his goals earning crucial draws against Bromley, Notts County and Colchester, while he also scored twice after coming on as a late substitute at Newport, helping his side win 3-0 in South Wales.
Grigg beat both Cook and former City defender Matty Platt to the award, the latter enjoying a solid month at the heart of the Notts County defence.
The other three nominees were Walsall’s Nathan Lowe, Port Vale’s Connor Ripley and Crewe’s Shilow Tracey.
