BRADFORD City Women have booked an FA Cup second round tie at Burnley.

It means a quick return to Lancashire for them, after they set up that tie against the Clarets with a 2-1 away win against Preston North End on Sunday.

Young American striker Chesney Tieyah slotted straight into the Bantams’ starting line up at Preston after coming in from Barnsley.

She almost grabbed a debut goal after 14 minutes, only for Hannah Markey’s through ball to have just too much on it for her new team-mate, who would have been in one-on-one otherwise.

City were starting to get on top at this point, and they took the lead soon after when in-form Markey cut in from the left and bent a gorgeous strike into the net.

The Bantams suffered a blow when the talented Mia Jacobs was forced off injured midway through the first half, but they soon doubled their lead without her.

Charlie Blythe swung in a wicked corner towards goal and the ball somehow found its way into the net, with no-one quite sure who had applied the final touch.

But Emma Tunstall halved the deficit 10 minutes before the break and City keeper Tiffany Whelan was then forced into a great save from Alicia Scott.

The Bantams stopper had to make another save early in the second half, while the eventual player-of-the-match, Charlotte Sales, was on top form in defence as Preston pushed hard to equalise.

Blythe made a brilliant last-ditch tackle to keep out Katie Higham, while at the other end, Tieyah scuffed a shot wide and Markey could only put a decent chance straight at Preston keeper Emily Gabbins.

Whelan was on hand to keep out a free kick from the hosts, while some smart play to wind the clock down late on ensured City went through to the next round.

Their second round tie with Burnley will take place on Sunday, November 24.
