MICHAEL Flynn thought Cheltenham should have had another goal and a penalty against City.

The former Bantams skipper felt his old club got away with two big calls in the first half of last night’s 1-1 draw.

Cheltenham hit back from Neill Byrne’s early header with a long-range cracker from Luke Young.

But Flynn was adamant the Robins were robbed of a goal before Byrne struck.

One-time City loan striker George Miller had the ball in the net from Young’s cross after two minutes but was flagged offside.

Flynn was adamant Miller’s position was fine when he watched replays of the incident – and that Jack Shepherd handled when he slid to block a cross later in the half.

“I've watched back the 'offside' goal and we should have had a penalty,” said the Welshman.

“George is not offside. Then the defender's arm was in an unnatural position, so the first half, we've had an injustice done to us.

“I thought Bradford were the better team second half and I am not taking away from that, but George is onside when the ball is played and it was a penalty.

“It was a really, really good performance first half. I thought we were excellent.

“They got on top second half but we stuck to it. We’d have lost that game two weeks ago but I’m proud of the players.”

City could argue that they were also short-changed by rookie ref Jamie O'Connor when Lewis Richards was pulled back by Lewis Payne right on the angle of the Cheltenham box.

There were some suggestions that Richards had a foot over the line when he was fouled but the free-kick was awarded just outside.

Flynn was delighted to see his advice pay off with Young’s 30-yard goal from a corner after City failed to close him down.

He added: “I am going to take the plaudits for this. Just before the game, I noticed something and myself and Ash Vincent spoke through it and I said 'no, I want this to happen, put Youngy on it, he'll score'.

“It's Youngy who deserves the credit really but I will say he lost his man for their goal so it is what it is.”
