ANDY Cook has emerged as the bookies' favourite to win his second Golden Boot in three seasons.

Cook’s double at Tranmere on Saturday took him to the top of the League Two leaderboard on seven goals – one ahead of Michael Cheek from new boys Bromley.

Cook, who won the top scorer title in 2022/23, has scored nine in all competitions and his latest two-goal showing attracted a flood of bets to send his odds tumbling.

He has dominated the betting market on Oddschecker since Saturday – attracting more than three-quarters of all bets placed for the division’s top scorer.

Fans could have got 8/1 on Cook before the weekend but now that price has been halved.

“Andy Cook’s two-goal performance against Tranmere has seen a huge surge of interest from bettors, with 80 per cent of all bets in the top goal-scorer market backing him since the weekend,” said Oddschecker spokesman Leon Blackman.

“Starting the season as a strong contender for the award, Cook’s odds have shortened from 8/1 to 4/1, making him the current bookies’ favourite to win the League Two Golden Boot.”

Seventh-placed City are currently 5/2 to win promotion and are 11/10 favourites to beat Gillingham at Valley Parade on Saturday.
