GRAHAM Alexander saluted City’s travelling army and called for a united front in the ongoing battle to get out of League Two.

An away following of 1,825 in a crowd of 8,366 cheered yesterday’s 2-0 victory at Tranmere – the second win a week.

Alexander thanked the noisy fans for the difference they made in the Prenton Park success and for sticking with the team during the recent wobble.

“We need them and they need us,” said the City boss. “They’re involved in everything we want to do.

“Talk to the players, none of us can win on our own.

“We have to be together as a club because everyone outside will want to bring us down and beat us.

“If we have that inside, it makes the job much harder. If we can be together, then it’s a much stronger unit to take on allcomers.

“I think we’ve shown that in the last few weeks.

“The fans have stuck with us when we’ve had those difficult performances and results.

“I think they’ve understood and hopefully they’ll get the benefits in the long term.”

Andy Cook’s double ensured City backed up the televised win over Newport with another on the Wirral.

The striker admitted: "We had a couple of games before Monday where they weren't great.

"We want to be winning games. At the start of the season we were winning games but then we had a little bit of a dip.

"We've won the last two so we need to keep momentum going and hopefully keep winning games.”
