ANTONI Sarcevic and Aden Baldwin are still contributing for City while they recover from injury.

Baldwin is getting closer to return, although he hasn’t trained enough yet to be considered for Saturday’s trip to Tranmere.

Sarcevic is still expected to be out for another couple of months.

But Graham Alexander feels both summer recruits can offer something to the current playing squad.

“We gave Sarce a long weekend off as a bit of a target to aim for a month ago,” said the Bantams boss.

“He’s eager to get back. His rehab and progress is going well but it’s still probably a couple of months from him returning.

“But he was back at the stadium in the changing room before the (Newport) game the other day.

“Sarce and Aden popped in to wish me all the best and they’d seen the players as well.

“All that sort of thing is important. It’s not just on the pitch where the togetherness and team spirit are fostered, it’s at the training ground and supporting your teammates at games.

“They are big personalities around the place and big characters for us. It’s just a shame we haven’t got them on the grass at the moment.

“But I think they can still contribute as can all the players.”

Long-term absentee Callum Johnson was in London to see a specialist for an update on his progress. Ciaran Kelly was at the training ground wearing a protective boot after his recent ankle surgery.

Alexander added: “Ciaran is in his boot for the next 10 days.

“He’s coming in two or three days a week at the moment but can’t really do much more.

“But he’s in reasonably good spirits because the operation went well.”

Neill Byrne went off before the end of his comeback game on Monday but Alexander confirmed the centre half trained as normal.

“Byrner is fine and was out with us today. It was just a bit of cramp in both his hamstrings.”
