CITY’S chances of qualifying for the Bristol Street Motors Trophy knock-out stages again were boosted last night.

Rotherham’s 3-1 win over Newcastle under-21s means Steve Evans’ side are already through.

The Bantams are in second spot in Northern Group H – still two points ahead of the young Magpies.

Anything less than a Newcastle win at Mansfield in their last game will see City qualify.

A draw and penalty bonus would put them level on points but City would have to lose their final match by at least five to drop to third on goal difference.

The game at Mansfield takes place on October 29 – three weeks before City host the Millers.

The group winner is guaranteed a home draw in the round of 32 against another runner-up.

City are keen to emulate their success from last season when they went all the way to the semi-finals – their best run in the competition.
