CITY’S Adam Wilson was part of European history in Italy last night.

The New Saints faced Fiorentina in the UEFA Conference League having qualified for the group stages for the first time.

The Cymru Premier champions held the Serie A giants for 65 minutes before finally cracking to goals from Yacil Adli and ex-Everton striker Moise Kean in a 2-0 defeat.

Wilson, back at his former club on a season-long loan from Valley Parade, played 82 minutes in the Stadio Artemi Franchi.

TNS had only 20 per cent possession and one shot on target but stunned their lofty hosts in a goalless first half in Tuscany.

Fiorentina, losing finalists for the last two seasons, were facing a huge embarrassment until they made the breakthrough on 65 minutes.

TNS failed to clear their lines and Adli was able to turn and shoot through a crowded box.

Substitute Kean added a second four minutes later, converting from close range at the second attempt.

He should have scored another but missed a gilt-edged chance. But that would have been hard on the Welsh side who had defended valiantly on their special night with keeper Connor Roberts in outstanding form.

TNS host Astana in their next group game on October 24.
