GRAHAM Alexander feels City have achieved what they set out to do in the summer window.
With two more days of business to run, he is still looking to bring in another centre half.
One potential target, who Alexander has spoken to, was in Carabao Cup action on Tuesday.
But a report last night linking City with Everton’s Reece Welch is understood to be wide of the mark.
“I do think there’ll be more potential movement but I can see it going to Friday night, which is not a scenario I was looking forward to if I’m honest,” said Alexander at yesterday’s pre-match press conference.
“I didn’t go into it with many expectations, other than coming out of it in a better condition for us as a football club.
“I do believe we’ve recruited well and retained well, which is important.
“I just have an open mind and be ready for anything thrown at me. That’s how the transfer window works.
“I’ve learned to put my expectations to the side apart from one. Do we believe we’ve improved as a team and a squad – and I do believe that has happened.
“From that perspective, I’m happy with us fulfilling our expectations.
“We still need one more to really have full closure on that. From outgoings, I’ve learned to see which way the wind blows.”
The Jake Young scenario has dominated the last month of the window – and is likely to head the agenda right up to tomorrow’s 11pm deadline.
Fleetwood’s accepted bid remains on the table but the striker trained as usual yesterday and appears to be holding out for late interest from elsewhere.
Alexander admits he will be glad when the window has shut.
“It brings up a different atmosphere at times.
“I spoke about Jake last week being slightly distracted and it’s natural. I don’t hold it against any players.
“But I don’t think he’s the only one in the squad who’s experiencing those feelings.
“It’s just knowing that things are going on in the background when all you want to do is focus on trying to win a game of football and get that team together.
“When you know it can be split up a little bit with people moving on, it’s always there bubbling away in the background.”
