BRADFORD Bulls have announced that over £2,000 has been raised for Whitehaven following various fundraising initiatives held at Bartercard Odsal on Sunday.

Supporters attending the game raised approximately £900 through bucket collections and Bulls’ ‘Guess the Score’ competition held in the Southbank Hospitality Suite.

A Paul Anderson signed Great Britain shirt also raised £500 at an auction post-match.

The Bradford Bulls donated funds to round the figure up to £2,000. The club has also waived the loan fees for Sam Ackroyd’s spell at Whitehaven – meaning the total figure is well in excess of £2,000.

In June last year, head coach Jonty Gorley admitted that Whitehaven's financial plight is serious enough for the short-term future of the club to be under threat.

Bulls commented after Sunday’s fundraising initiatives: “We hope this is just the start and we would like nothing more than our fellow Championship clubs, who are hosting Whitehaven, to surpass our figure.

"We wish Les Messenger, Jonty Gorley and everyone at Whitehaven all the best for the remainder of the season and beyond."
