CITY’S move for a second loan recruit in time for the start of the season has been held up by a slight injury.

The Bantams have now got the green light to bring in the target they have been chasing since well before the Austrian training camp.

But the deal faces another delay because the player in question is currently out of action.

“Unfortunately, he’s picked up a little niggle just as it was starting to warm up again about him coming into us,” said boss Graham Alexander.

“We’ll wait until he gets fit, which will be in the next two weeks. Then if everything’s all good to go, that will happen.”

Alexander revealed recently that the unnamed player was for a position “that we’re not desperately in need of right now” – which suggests he is a midfielder.

City initially had to wait while his parent club landed their own additions to free up his departure.

The player’s good form in pre-season then prompted a rethink with his club about keeping him for the new campaign after all.

But they contacted City last week to say they are happy to sanction a move when the player is fully fit again.

Alexander added: “We’ve had an agreement with his club and I’ve sat down with the player as well. We really like him.

“We obviously need to make sure he’s fully fit before we do the deal.

“I don’t particularly want to bring in a player who is still carrying something. If he gets fit in the next 10 days or so, then he should join us before the window is over.

“The club let us know a few days ago that even though he’s got this niggle, when he’s fit he’ll be available to come to us.

“They’ve done the business that they wanted to do, so fingers crossed that goes through smoothly.”

City last week brought in centre half Jack Shepherd on a season-long loan from Barnsley - their sixth addition of the window.

Meanwhile, Stevenage are staying tight-lipped over the report that they are chasing Jake Young.

City have confirmed that two League One clubs have registered an interest in the striker - although they are yet to receive a formal bid.

Alex Revell’s Stevenage squad is not short of forwards but Aaron Pressley is not expected back until the autumn after ankle surgery following an injury he suffered in a friendly against Watford.

Jamie Reid has also been ruled out for the first month of the season due to a swelling in his leg.
