JACOB Bateman and Jamie Gill have had a taste of life in the first team at Bradford Bulls this season.

But neither are quite ready to play for the senior side regularly just yet, so the pair were granted loan deals on rugby league’s Transfer Deadline Day on Friday.

The teenage duo have joined Betfred League 1 side Cornwall on loan, where they will spend the rest of the 2024 campaign.

Both players are set to make their debuts for the Choughs in Greater Manchester this afternoon, as their new side travel to face Rochdale Hornets.

Cornwall currently sit second-bottom of the third tier, with three wins from their 15 league games so far.

Towering front row Gill made a particularly strong impression in a pre-season encounter against Hull F.C. in January, scoring what proved to be the match-winning try in a 34-32 victory.

As for Bateman, he had the honour of making his league debut for Bradford back in May, coming on to the field at Odsal late on to help the depleted hosts to an excellent 28-10 victory over high-flying Sheffield Eagles.

Last month, Bateman signed a two-year professional contract with Bulls at the club’s summer fans’ forum.

And this move to Cornwall is the latest step on his journey, as he aims to follow in the footsteps of his older cousin, and current England international, John Bateman.
