BRADFORD Bulls put up a decent fight at Odsal on Sunday, but remain third-bottom of the Northern Women’s Championship after an 18-0 defeat to a superior Salford Red Devils side.

Kim Seddon scored an early try for the visitors in what was otherwise a cagey start, Sam Evans converting to put her side 6-0 up.

Bulls thought they had given themselves a chance to level when teenager Phoebe Allott crossed the whitewash on 24 minutes, only for the referee to rule that that the tackle on her had been completed before she touched the ball down.

That meant the try was disallowed, and Bradford soon went further behind when an offload found Alex Simpson in space, and she dodged a despairing tackle attempt to make it over for a score.

The conversion was missed, but Salford and Simpson scored again on the hooter to ensure the away side led 14-0 at the break.

In a quiet second half, Megan Hobin scored the only try out wide on 66 minutes.

Bulls fought hard to get a score on the board, but excellent Salford defence kept them out.

On a largely positive day for the visitors, they did have someone stretchered off in the closing stages, with Bulls sending their best wishes to the injured player.

Bradford are back in Women’s Championship action this coming Sunday, as they take on second-placed Sheffield Eagles.
