LUKE Hendrie is back in the EFL after joining the Morecambe influx.
Hendrie was one of 15 players announced on Friday by former Bantams boss Derek Adams after the Shrimps’ transfer embargo had been lifted.
The ex-City defender then played 62 minutes in their 1-0 win at Longridge Town in the weekend friendly.
Yann Songo’o has also signed up for yet another spell under Adams, who is back in the hot-seat at the Lancashire club for a third time.
Right back Hendrie spent last season on loan with Hartlepool in the National League before being released at the end of his Valley Parade contract.
The 29-year-old made 22 appearances during his permanent spell with the Bantams – the last of those coming off the bench at Accrington in the Carabao Cup first round last August.
He then played 21 games at former club Hartlepool.
Hendrie was signed by Adams for City in January 2022 but had played just twice when the Scot was sacked the following month. He was a regular under Mark Hughes for the rest of that season before falling out of favour.
John Hendrie's son was on loan at Valley Parade from Burnley earlier in his career when he played 18 games during the first half of the 2017/2018 season.
His arrival at Morecambe was part of a frantic day as Adams was finally able to fill his squad. The Shrimps have been under an HMRC-related embargo since March.
The EFL announced that had been lifted on Thursday but the club were fined just over £5,000 and handed a one transfer window fee restriction, suspended for two years, for “failing to meet its payment obligations in accordance with EFL regulations”.
Former Bantams midfielder Songo’o, who has played for Adams throughout his career, signed a new one-year deal. He played 40 games for Morecambe last season.
