TYREIK Wright today made his first City appearance in his third spell at Valley Parade.

Wright, who signed permanently from Plymouth last week, featured in a behind-closed-doors game against another EFL club at the training ground.

He eased back into it with a 45-minute outing at Apperley Bridge this afternoon.

“He looked a little bit rusty his first day,” said Graham Alexander. “I just asked him to do the usual things, except for sprinting.

“I wanted him to manage that side of it and he was good. He’s been desperate to get his boots back on as well.

“We’ll just keep making sure we improve week-by-week, day-by-day, physically, tactically, the lot and get the ball rolling.”

Wright was the only addition from the players who had featured in Saturday’s friendly against Chorley.

Alexander felt there was a step-up in performance through the squad.

“We got 45 minutes for each player again. We were just looking for an increase in the physical aspect.

“We had Saturday to work off from a tactical point of view to show them a few points and, to be fair, they put it into practice.

“We’d done 15 minutes in possession leading up to the game on Saturday. We reviewed the in-possession stuff on Monday and did a bit more work on it.

“Obviously we wanted to put it into practice and you could see straight away there was more cohesion and instinct of where to be.

“There’s still more to come and a lot of work to be done.

“We’re looking to put in winning performances more at the end of the pre-season, maybe even after the Austria trip.

“These first ones are more about the basic principles and reminders for the players that were here and obviously new stuff for those who have just joined us.

“But same again, I’m really pleased with the players. We had a double session Monday, double session Tuesday and they are back in tomorrow.”
