JAMIE Walker has claimed that Carlisle wanted to sign him.

The Scot remains at Valley Parade after City triggered the one-year option in his contract.

The club have been talking with Walker about a new deal but nothing has come of it at this stage.

The 31-year-old revealed in an interview with Football Scotland that relegated Carlisle were among the rival clubs that showed an interest in him.

“I actually finished the season well so I had a bit of interest,” he said.

“I think the club got a bit wind of it so they took that option up. I'm quite happy, it's a good club.

"I think Carlisle were interested. They've got new owners so I think they're giving it a bit of a go.

“But there were clubs in League One too but my agent never really said who. It never really got that far because as soon as they extended my option, I never had any leeway or that."

Walker finished the season strongly with three goals in his last two appearances and Graham Alexander is determined to keep him on the pitch more after a lengthy injury absence.

Walker is expecting a very demanding pre-season leading up to the opening league game at MK Dons on August 10.

"I spoke to a few of the lads at Motherwell and I know what the gaffer is like, so I think it's going be hard work.

“At this level, I think you win games through hard work. His morals are hard work and doing things properly, so I think you'll probably get success doing that."
