BOBBY Pointon’s new City deal has been held up after he changed his agent.

The Bantams triggered another year in his contract after the promising Low Moor talent’s breakthrough first senior campaign.

But an increased offer to keep him for the longer term remains on the table.

Head of football operations David Sharpe spoke with Pointon’s representatives again yesterday. But he admitted the discussions had been held up after the 20-year-old decided to switch agents.

Sharpe said: “When we triggered his option, he was going through a change in representative.

“That delayed the process by about six weeks to two months. So, we’ve only really started talking to his new agents as of this week.

“There’s an appetite to get him tied down but you have to be sensible about it.

“You can’t rush into giving a deal over and above where you feel it’s worth.

“If everybody is sensible, we’ll get it done. But the appetite is to definitely keep Bobby Pointon here.

“That will be the right thing to do from a footballing, business and fanbase point of view and I’ll be doing my utmost to try and do it.

“Everybody’s involved with it but I’ve obviously had the initial chats with the agents.”

Pointon scored four goals last season - including crackers in the final two games against Barrow and Newport. He also weighed in with four assists.

City are protected with Pointon to some extent due to football’s compensation rules.

Providing the club offer terms in a new deal that are equal or better than what he is on now, they would be entitled to a significant fee any time he leaves up to the age of 24.

That would be January 2028 in the case of the midfielder - another three full seasons.
