CITY did make an offer for Charlie Wyke – but are not currently in fresh talks with him.

The club have been heavily linked with their former striker with a report from respected national journalist Alan Nixon claiming they are in discussions.

The Telegraph & Argus understands that is wide of the mark but the Bantams did try to bring him back to Valley Parade in January.

Wyke was made an offer during the mid-season transfer window while at Wigan – but instead opted for a Championship loan move with Rotherham.

The 31-year-old is up for grabs after his Wigan exit. He scored seven goals in 18 appearances for the Latics last term but only once after joining Rotherham as they crashed out of the second tier.

Wyke scored 23 goals in 62 games during his 18-month stint at Valley Parade before signing for Sunderland in 2018.

Stories that he could be coming back have gathered pace since he was pictured regularly with several City players on Alex Gilliead’s stag do.

But Wyke, who has just got married himself, is not thought to be close to a return to the club as things stand.
