GRAHAM Alexander expects the summer market to hot up again once teams get into pre-season.
City make their Apperley Bridge return on Monday armed with four new faces.
Antoni Sarcevic, Neill Byrne, Callum Johnson and Aden Baldwin have all been added to the squad.
June has been quiet so far but Alexander anticipates things will pick up in the next couple of weeks.
“There’s been a real plateau,” said the City chief. “We got good business done early.
“We’d have been happy if we’d got those players in over the space of five or six weeks. The fact we did it in quite a condensed period has meant there’s almost been a lull since publicly.
“There’s still been conversations going on in the background and targets that we are trying to get over the line.
“But it often happens like this in the summer. A lot of people go on holiday, because it’s their only opportunity, whether that’s players, directors of football and managers.
“It’s not a case of everyone urgently looking to get something done.
“I’m hoping next week once we get back into pre-season that everyone will start picking up the pace again.”
City have been one of the busier recruiters in League Two along with Notts County, whose incomings have included Matty Platt after he rejected an offer to stay at Valley Parade.
Alexander hopes to get more done before the players get too far into pre-season but is content with the situation at this stage.
“As I’ve said before, we’re not going to rush into signing a player just because they are available.
“We’ve got to make sure that we feel they are going to improve us and there is a specific place for them in the squad.
“We don’t want to overdo it in certain positions and leave ourselves short in others.
“There are probably two or three profiles of players we know that we want. But I can’t give any guarantees on the timeframe to make those happen.
“We’re not seeing masses of activity but I’m sure every club is speaking to a lot of people. We’re the same.
“We’re content with where we are right now. I don’t think it’s the finished article.
“There is still a bit of improvement and tweaking to do. If we can get those players in for the majority of pre-season, that will only benefit them and us to give them a good chunk of work.
“Obviously with pre-season being on the horizon, that brings that timeframe a little bit closer for us.
“It becomes a little bit false in the summer because everyone’s at home. There are no games going on so you’re not missing anything.
“Then all of a sudden, teams start to return to training and players are going back.
“Sometimes that speeds up the mind and the thought process to make sure that things get done.
“I would expect to see a little bit more business going on in the next couple of weeks at least.
“But we are really happy with the guys we’ve brought in and the squad we’ve kept together. I think there’s a lot of talent there.”
