CITY will find former keeper Alex Bass in their way next season as the latest part of Notts County’s revamp.
The 26-year-old has joined the Magpies after a frustrating spell at Sunderland.
Bass featured just twice in two years with the Championship club – and spent last season on loan at Wimbledon, where he played 48 games.
He was beaten by Emmanuel Osadebe’s winner at the Cherry Red Records Stadium during Kevin McDonald’s temporary stint in charge before keeping a shut-out in the goalless return at Valley Parade in February.
Bass now teams up with Matty Platt as Notts rebuild a defence that had conceded the most goals in League Two.
Club director Richard Montague told their website: “We believe Alex was the best-performing goalkeeper in League Two last season – and rank him very highly among his peers in League One – so we’re absolutely delighted to welcome him to Meadow Lane.
“Along with fellow new defensive signings Matty Platt and Jacob Bedeau, he’s a commanding presence who we feel will give us a huge advantage in dealing with the threats we struggled against in 2023-24.
“He’s also a fantastic shot-stopper, backed up by the fact he kept 16 clean sheets last season, and a player who we believe has a lot to offer on the ball, which is so crucial to the way we play.”
Bass was brought to Valley Parade by Derek Adams in January 2022, unexpectedly arriving on loan from Portsmouth to replace Richard O’Donnell in City’s goal.
He made his debut the following day in a 2-1 win at Walsall – pulling off an unorthodox save with his face.
Bass made 21 appearances for City, keeping the number one slot when Mark Hughes was appointed the following month, and kept six clean sheets.
The 26-year-old said at the time that his half-season spell with the Bantams had made him a better keeper.
