BANTAMS goalkeeper Sam Walker admits every summer acts as something of a reset, but he insists City need not lose the momentum they built up at the end of last season.

Graham Alexander’s side were outstanding in the run-in, winning six and drawing one of their last seven games, meaning they only missed out on the League Two play-offs by a single point.

More of that at the start of next season, and City could steal a march on their rivals before the leaves even start falling off the trees in the autumn.

But even though most of last season’s regular starters have stayed put at Valley Parade, is what the players did in April even relevant to this August and September?

Walker said: “The start of the season always feels like a bit of reset, because there are new faces and others that have moved on.

“It will feel like and it will be a different group when we get back into pre-season training later this month.

“But for the guys who were part of that end of season spurt that we went on, it’s about remembering what we’re capable of, and that we can go on those big runs.”

That being said, Walker knows City need to cut their habit of being a ‘streaky’ side.

He admitted: “We have to keep consistency in our performances, which is the big thing we have to create this coming season.

We have to cut out things like that four-game losing spell we had in March before that really good run.

“Earlier in the season there were large periods where we looked good too, then we came off it.

“In my experience, the teams that are largely the most consistent over a 46-game season are the ones that finish up at the top end of the table, which is where we’ve got to strive to be.”
