TWO former West Bowling juniors have been called up by England for an academy game against France.

The 21-man squad, selected by academy boss and former Bradford Bulls Super League ace Paul Anderson, features the very best of England's emerging rugby league talent, as they get set to take on their old rivals from across the Channel on Tuesday, July 2.

Both Presley Cassell and Jayemm Oladipupo have been selected, with both teenagers currently plying their trade with Betfred Super League side Leeds Rhinos.

But both came through the ranks at Bowling, with the proud community club posting their congratulations on Twitter.

They wrote: “Great to see 2 former Juniors making the England Academy squad for the upcoming fixture versus France.

“Good luck Presley & Jayemm #GreenArmy #EnglandRL.”

Cassell and Oladipupo are yet to make their first-team bow for Leeds, but four of their England academy teammates have already debuted in Super League.

They are Hull FC’s Jack Charles, Wigan’s Jack Farrimond and Warrington duo Arron Lindop and Cai Taylor-Wray.

Bowling’s current academy side were not in action in the National Conference League Alliance Division at the weekend, nor were the first team in the NCL Premier Division.

It was a quiet weekend on the amateur rugby league front in general, though a couple of Bradford sides did take to the field.

Queensbury remain second-bottom in Division Two of the Yorkshire Men’s League, putting up a good fight at home to Seacroft Sharks, only to slip to a 30-22 defeat.

Wyke made a dreadful start to their Division Three campaign, which included an 88-0 defeat to Bramley Buffaloes, as well as being beaten 80-14 at York Acorn.

But they have made huge improvements over the last few weeks, and followed up an unlucky 28-26 defeat to Dodworth Miners at the start of the month with a first league win of the season on Saturday.

They came out on top in an exciting game against Birstall Victoria, beating them 26-20.
