Bulls' Betfred Championship rivals York have undergone a major restructure, with Andrew Henderson no longer their head coach, but still remaining at the club.

The Knights have announced that Henderson has moved positions within the club to become their head of rugby operations & development, with Mark Applegarth being instated as the new head coach.

In a huge change for York, chairman Clint Goodchild has confirmed that the restructuring off of the pitch that will see Henderson leave his position as head coach, transitioning into a new role that will allow him to oversee the day-to-day operations around the club.

Goodchild acknowledged that it has not been an ideal Championship campaign so far, with York currently sat third-bottom with three wins from the opening 10 league games.

But the chairman hopes this change of management can help the club to turn the tide.

After an internal meeting between Goodchild, Henderson and general manager Neil Gulliver, the Knights came to an agreement for Henderson to make the switch to the new head of rugby operations & development role.

Replacing Henderson will be former Wakefield head coach Applegarth, who suffered relegation with Trinity from Betfred Super League last season.

Henderson previously held a head of rugby role at Keighley Cougars for 12 months, before leaving to take up the head coach role at York in October 2022.
