Calum Kavanagh has been called up to represent Republic of Ireland Under-21s for their upcoming friendlies against Croatia and England.

The 20-year-old forward joins up with his international teammates today ahead of Friday's trip to Zagreb to face Croatia.

They then stay in the Croatian capital to take on England Under-20s next Tuesday.

Middlesbrough academy product Kavanagh has been rewarded for a good end to the season with City, following his permanent move from the North East on Deadline Day of the winter transfer window.

The striker, who signed a two-and-a-half year deal, made his City debut on February 3, coming on as a substitute in a goalless draw against AFC Wimbledon.

Later that month, he grabbed his first Bantams goal and assist as his side crushed MK Dons 4-0 at Valley Parade, before scoring the winner against Sutton four days later.

Kavanagh went on to score in wins over Tranmere, Salford and Newport later in the season, managing five goals in 15 league appearances under Graham Alexander.

He is the son of Dublin-born Graham Kavanagh, who enjoyed a stellar career, most notably with Stoke and Cardiff.

The 50-year-old, who won 16 senior caps for Ireland, also played Premier League football for both Middlesbrough and Wigan.
