FORMER City skipper Michael Flynn is set to face his old club again next season.

Flynn is expected to be named the new manager of Cheltenham, according to a report in Gloucestershire Live.

The 43-year-old has been out of football since an eight-month stint at Swindon ended in January – just weeks after he had signed a new contract.

Flynn, who played 104 games for City between 2009 and 2012, cut his management teeth with hometown club Newport.

He pulled off a great escape from relegation in his first season in 2017 and then took them to the League Two finals in 2019 and 2021, losing to Tranmere and Derek Adams’ Morecambe respectively.

After 250 games in charge, Flynn was named Walsall manager in February 2022 before joining Swindon 14 months later.

Relegated Cheltenham are looking for a successor to Darrell Clarke, who took the Barnsley helm a week ago.
