GRAHAM Alexander sees no reason for concern with the current state of City’s recruitment drive.

The Bantams moved quickly to snap up former Stockport duo Antoni Sarcevic and Neill Byrne.

And Timi Odusina last night followed Ash Taylor out of Valley Parade as the second of the expected departures.

Alexander has been talking with another potential recruit as he looks to line up the next addition.

The summer window does not officially open until June 14 and the City boss is satisfied with the progress made so far.

“It goes in peaks and troughs,” he said.

“The season finishes and everyone gets dead excited about moving on.

“Then a load of people disappear on holiday and it goes quiet again because clubs, players and agents have gathered the information from the different options they might have.

“They want a little bit of time to think about it.

“Then it heats up again and maybe a couple of signings or outgoings move the other things along.

“It’s just a process that we have to go through. We have to be prepared to act when we need to and not just be in a race to get people done.”

The summer market can be a waiting game at this stage as players consider their different options. Business elsewhere in League Two has generally remained fairly quiet.

Alexander added: “We’ve shown great patience and discipline to identify the right ones. That’s the most important thing.

“There will be a few more comings and goings before preseason starts.

“I wouldn’t say we are relaxed but we are where we are. We envisaged being where we are right now.

“We didn’t kid ourselves we’d have all our recruitment done. We didn’t kid ourselves that all the outgoings would have moved on either.

“We’re quite content with the position. Everyone’s clear in what we want to do.

“Then it’s just a matter of time before it actually happens.”

The City boss is working alongside the “transfer committee” of head of football operations David Sharpe, head of recruitment Stephen Gent and chief executive Ryan Sparks to identify targets.

Alexander’s experience of past windows has taught him not to get too obsessed with the timescale.

“I don’t like panic or drama. It’s counter-productive and very short term.

“For us, we’re building for the long term and that’s over the course of the season and making sure the squad’s right.

“I think we’ve got enough experience among us all at the club to understand what we’ve got.

“We’re really clear in the profile of player we want to bring in. That’s not going to change at all.

“But obviously there are different names out there that fit that profile.

“We have a target list but those we potentially identify will also have other suitors because they are good players.

“The guy I’ve just met for a couple of hours has got other teams interested. He wants to weigh up all his options and then make a decision.

“We’re not in full control of it but we accept that.

“We just want to make sure when we get to pre-season, we’ve done as much work as we can.

“There are no guarantees it will all be done.

“But obviously by the time the window shuts and the season’s up and running, we want to be able to look at the squad, nod our heads and say, ‘yeah, that’s what we wanted to create.’”
