MATT Derbyshire has issued a farewell message following his City departure.
The 38-year-old striker was among the players released at the end of last season.
Signed in January 2023, Derbyshire made 23 appearances for the Bantams but only four starts.
He scored twice – both significant goals – in the win at Stevenage a month after signing and then in the play-off second leg against Carlisle at the end of that season.
Derbyshire was given limited game time in the most recent campaign, with just the one start in the televised home draw with Grimsby in September.
He came on only three times for Graham Alexander – the last in stoppage time in January’s Valley Parade loss to promoted Crawley.
Derbyshire was part of Kevin McDonald’s coaching team in between managers and helped Alexander with the squad’s forwards in training at times.
Writing on Instagram, Derbyshire said: “Best wishes to @officialbantams, it’s been an amazing 18 months for me at the club.
“I’ve enjoyed every moment being at such a great club. I wish them all the best in the future.
“Looking forward to what’s next.”
Among the many who have liked the post are CEO Ryan Sparks, Vadaine Oliver and former Bantams Emmanuel Osadebe and James Meredith.
City were Derbyshire’s 14th club in a career which started at Blackburn in 2003. He has also had spells playing in Greece, Cyprus, Australia and India.
