CITY “set Jon Tomkinson free” during his season-long loan spell.

The American did not come on in his Valley Parade farewell against Newport at the weekend.

But the 22-year-old made 28 appearances in total after signing from Norwich at the end of last summer’s transfer window.

His dad David said on Twitter: “It has been a privilege to follow the fortunes of Bradford this season.

“Thank you Bantams fans for freeing JT and backing him and the team. The club has such tremendous support and you deserve more good times.”

Texan Tomkinson had to bide his time for a chance after Mark Hughes brought him in. He played just once as a sub under the Welshman.

Tomkinson made his first City start in the EFL Trophy against Manchester City under-21s when Kevin McDonald was in temporary charge.

Graham Alexander played him again for the Liverpool under-21s tie in the same competition at the start of December – and that kick-started a regular run in the side.

Tomkinson started 17 league games as well as five in City’s run to the Trophy semi-finals.

He has also established himself in the USA under-23s team ahead of this summer’s Olympics in Paris.

Writing on Instagram, Tomkinson posted: “23/24 is done and what a rollercoaster it’s been.

“It’s been a pleasure to play for this special club and be a part of such a great dressing room.

“Thank you for all the love and support you have shown to me. Bradford will always hold a special place in my heart.”
