BRADFORD City Women have temporarily climbed to the top of the table after defeating Harrogate Town Ladies 7-0 away from home on Sunday.

The clinical Maria McKenna scored a hat-trick for the visitors as the Bantams ran riot to maintain their unbeaten record in 2024.

The win has seen them rise to 1st place for the first time this season in the North East Regional Premier Division, although their rivals all have games in hand on them in the push for promotion.

It didn’t take long for City to get into their flow at Harrogate and they found themselves 2-0 ahead with just ten minutes on the clock.

The first came through Hannah Markey who, after missing a good chance moments earlier, cut in from the left before releasing a thunderbolt into the bottom corner to put City 1-0 up.

The second came after Nolan was brought down in the penalty area, and up stepped Kanisha Underdown to dispatch her effort into the right-hand corner from 12 yards out.

McKenna then struck her first goal of the game with a simple close range strike, before Underdown got her second with a powerful header into the top corner following a crossing situation.

City continued to be in cruise control after the interval and scored three more through McKenna (X2) and a solo effort from Summer Paley.

The pick of the bunch was McKenna’s hat-trick strike, as she collected the ball at the edge of the box before rifling a fierce strike beyond the reach of Harrogate’s goalkeeper.

Up next for the Bantams is a trip to Hull United this Sunday with kick-off getting underway at 2pm.
