STEVE Morison broke City’s hearts at Wembley seven years ago.

Now he heads for Valley Parade looking to revive some belief into Sutton’s desperate fight to stay in League Two.

The man who headed Millwall’s winner against Stuart McCall’s Bantams has been in charge of the south London club since the start of last month.

But he is still looking for a first win after eight attempts.

Sutton sacked long-term boss Matt Gray in December following an 8-0 hammering at Stockport.

Gray had been at the helm since 2019 and led them into the EFL for the first time in the club’s history two years later.

Former Cardiff boss Morison left non-league Hornchurch to accept the task of trying to keep Sutton in the fourth tier.

So far, he has presided over four draws and four defeats as they remain seven points from safety – slipping back to bottom after Forest Green’s surprise midweek triumph at Barrow where Emmanuel Osadebe fired the winner.

Sutton ran Wrexham close on the same night but fell to a late goal from Elliot Lee.

Boxing Day’s win at Wimbledon is still their only three points in the 16 games since they beat the Bantams at the end of October.

But Morison was encouraged by their efforts against Phil Parkinson’s men.

“I thought we performed excellently and didn’t get what we deserved,” he said. “The ball just didn’t quite fall to us.

“I’m gutted because I thought we were the better team over 90 minutes. It’s a tough one to take.”

Midfielder Harry Beautyman is a big doubt after coming off. But captain Craig Eastmond continues his comeback from a lengthy absence.

On the trip to Valley Parade, Morison said: “It’s only going to be a high spot if we win the game.

“We’ve just got to win our games and not worry about how anyone else gets on.”
