GRAHAM Alexander was happy to see the goals shared round on a “brilliant night” for City.

The Bantams thrashed his former club MK Dons 4-0 at Valley Parade to make it successive league wins.

Matty Platt, Calum Kavanagh, Andy Cook and Clarke Oduor all netted as City saw off another side in the top seven.

Cook’s second goal of the week took him up to 15 for the season – and Alexander was delighted to see others sharing the scoring load.

“It’s something we’ve looked at not to rely just on one guy because it’s too much pressure on Andy,” said the City boss.

“He’s a team player and obviously wants to score as a proper number nine. But just looking to him is not right.

“It makes it easier for the opposition to defend against us as a team and Andy as well.

“If we can add those goal-scoring threats from other positions, I think it frees up the space for Cooky and shows we’re not a one-man team.

“I was delighted for Cooky to get his goal. Following on from Saturday, it was important that he gets on that roll.

“He’s improved a few things over the past couple of weeks and hopefully he’ll continue to reap the rewards.”

City had not won in their last five home league games and Alexander was thrilled to see them follow up the weekend win at Wrexham.

Successive victories have also cut the gap to the play-offs to four points – although the seven teams directly above them have all played less games.

Alexander added: “It’s been a brilliant night for the team, the supporters and the staff. We’ve been through a difficult period.

“I still think we’ve got to improve certain things but following on from Saturday, which was a fantastic win at a near-impossible place, to beat another good team 4-0 shows more good signs that it’s coming together.

“The confidence in front of goal was a little bit low. But the belief in what we were doing has always been there for the players.

“We just haven’t had that final touch. If we could find that, I just felt we were a good team waiting to happen and I think we’ve shown that in the last two games.

“I understand there’s still work to be done but let’s not take anything away from the boys. They’ve been fantastic against two very good teams in League Two.”

Platt’s goal to open the scoring was a thundering strike and Alexander was pleased with the positive build-up play to create the chance.

“It’s a great finish and there were a couple of things before it that we’ve been working on.

“It’s not to get our centre halves scoring 20-yard screamers but keeping the ball alive in the box and our forward players being pro-active and not taking the safe option in that final third.

“It was a great way to start the game and I was delighted that we didn’t just sit back and decide to defend for the rest.

“We had to defend for long periods in good areas for us. I never felt there was sustained pressure on our goal.

“If the opposition are passing it 60-70 yards away from our goal, we’re fine with that.

“There were a lot of hard yards out there but we obviously had the goals to reward that.”
