VADAINE Oliver scored an own goal as his Stevenage loan suffered a setback last night.
The City striker was responsible for the only goal as Steve Evans’ League One promotion hopefuls suffered a setback at home to Reading.
Oliver, making the third appearance of his temporary spell with the Hertfordshire club, fumbled the ball into the back of his own net on the stroke of half-time after a goal-mouth melee following Amadou Mbengue’s long throw.
Evans said: "We shouldn't concede the throw-in … and then Vadaine gets under it and it just creeps in at the far post.
"That can happen and we won't apportion any blame from that.
"We said at half-time that if we continue to press and play with purpose, we’ll make chances.
"We did make chances. Jamie Reid should score, Vadaine Oliver should score, we should have a penalty – it’s a bitter one to swallow.”
