Bradford City midfielder Alex Gilliead is determined to play against Barnsley in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy tonight.

The game is virtually a dead rubber, with both teams having already qualified for the last-32 of the competition ahead of the all-Yorkshire clash at Valley Parade.

But Graham Alexander insists he does not see this game as any less important because of that, and it seems he has instilled that mantra into his players.

Not only does Gilliead want to be back out on the pitch tonight, as one of the players not rotated out of the side, he also wants to right the wrongs of Saturday’s 4-2 defeat to Notts County in League Two, a game which saw the Bantams four goals down by half-time.

Asked by the T&A if he was keen to get a well-earned rest after the weekend defeat and focus solely on the league game with Accrington this Saturday, Gilliead insisted: “I think everyone wants to play, especially after the game today (against Notts).

“You want to play, make things right and do well again.

“It’s one of those games where we can try and get the win and start to build some confidence within ourselves.”
