Bradford (Park Avenue) have loaned in former Bradford City midfielder Connor Shanks from National League North side Spennymoor Town.
Shanks began his career with Huddersfield Town, playing as a youth, before moving to the Bantams in 2017.
He was named in the League Football Education’s “The 11” list in June 2020, which puts the spotlight on some of the best academy talents in the EFL at the time.
Shanks turned professional in July 2020, signing a one-year contract with City.
He made his senior debut for City in the EFL Trophy in September 2020 against Doncaster Rovers, but left the Bantams in June 2021 at the end of his contract, returning to Huddersfield two months later.
Shanks impressed the Nuneaton Borough management when he scored a goal and grabbed an assist in Huddersfield’s Under-21s’ cup game against Birmingham City, earning himself a loan move to the non-league side in September 2021.
He made an immediate impact at Nuneaton, winning the Player of the Month award there for his goals in both the Birmingham Senior Cup and the Southern League Central Premier Division.
On January 19, 2023, Shanks’ contract at Huddersfield was terminated, and he joined Spennymoor two days later.
He made 20 appearances for the Moors in the 2022/23 season, scoring on his debut against Darlington and a last-gasp equaliser against Scarborough Athletic.
That earned him an extended stay at the North-East side, as he signed a new deal there over the summer.
Shanks has made six appearances for Spennymoor so far this season but has joined Avenue on loan in search of more game time.
The young midfielder is available for selection in Avenue’s Northern Premier League Premier Division clash this afternoon against their fellow strugglers Basford United.
