DANNY Cowley has stressed his next managerial move must be right for his family.
Cowley is one of the names that continues to be heavily linked with the City vacancy and is the current favourite with the bookies.
The club last night released their first statement about the “on-going” search for a permanent successor.
Mark Trueman will take caretaker charge of Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Wycombe as Kevin McDonald concentrates on playing again.
City have been looking to make an appointment by the weekend but are not thought to be close to a decision as yet.
Cowley, who has been out of work since being sacked at Portsmouth in January, has been strongly tipped for the Valley Parade hot-seat among other jobs currently on the market.
He revealed that he has held talks with several clubs.
“We’re just trying to wait for the right job,” he said as he plots a return to management with brother Nicky.
“We’ve been lucky enough to speak to some clubs in recent weeks.
“Ultimately, we’re just trying to make the right decision for ourselves and our families.

“Historically, it’s probably been about the career and trying to make the right decision for ourselves. It’s always been about the football.
“My children are now a little bit older. Bella is 14 so she’s doing her GCSEs at the moment and all of this comes into your thinking.”
Speaking on Sky Sports last night, Cowley outlined what he is looking for from his potential next club.
“You’re always trying to find a club that’s self-aware enough to know where it is today and has clarity over where it wants to go.
“Once you find a club that has a clear starting point and destination, then you can then decide if you’ve got the skills to put the stepping stones in place.
“Football clubs are bricks and mortar but it’s always the people that make it, whether that be the players, the staff, the board, the supporters.
“The best organisations and clubs I’ve worked for always have a sense of belonging. You feel valued and this is what we hope to find.
“In the coming weeks and months, hopefully we’ll find the right destination.”
Dean Holden and Leam Richardson have also been backed for the City hot-seat and former MK Dons boss Graham Alexander is another possible contender.
Stephen Clemence, Steve Bruce's long-time number two, had been high up in the odds as well but Gillingham have just confirmed his appointment as their new head coach.
