MIKE Williamson is aiming to announce himself to the Milton Keynes public tonight with the Dons’ first win for two months.

The MK Dons boss takes charge of his first home game with his new side desperate to end a nine-game winless slump.

Graham Alexander had won League Two manager of the month for August – but paid the price for the dramatic fall from grace since when the relegated club ended his hot-seat stint last week.

Williamson had two training sessions before his dug-out debut at Accrington on Saturday, where the Dons went down to a 1-0 defeat.

Now he is targeting a winning start at Stadium MK – where the home side last won on August 26 against Doncaster.

Williamson won the National League North with Gateshead in 2022 and took them to last season’s FA Trophy final when they lost to Halifax.

His name had also been mentioned with the City vacancy, although it was thought there was never any substance to the speculation.

The former Newcastle centre half likes to play a possession-based style – a system that MK Dons had employed previously under Russell Martin and Liam Manning.

“He wants us to be brave under pressure, have courage on the ball and to find gaps between the presses,” defender Tommy Smith told the MK Citizen.

“Yes, we'll make mistakes but hopefully game-by-game we'll see progress.

“It's tricky for everyone. The manager needs to get to know the players, and we need to get to know him as well.

“It needs time, it will never click immediately. We need to develop the relationships with the new management team on and off the pitch.

“We're all in it together, we know where we want to go.”
