MANY Featherstone Rovers fans spent Saturday night gloating about Bradford Bulls' Betfred Championship play-off semi-final defeat to Toulouse Olympique.

But few foresaw that Fev themselves would suffer the same fate 24 hours later.

If Toulouse's 38-20 victory over Bradford was widely expected, London Broncos' 36-26 win against Rovers last night was a seismic shock.

The Broncos have ended the season in cracking form, save for Bulls beating them 12-10 in the capital last month.

But they only finished fifth in the table, while Featherstone lost just twice in 27 games to finish 12 points clear at the summit.

Yet when it mattered, Rovers fell short yet again, this being a second successive shock defeat in the play-off semis, following Million Pound Game heartbreak in 2019 and 2021.

London raced into an early 12-0 lead in last night's televised clash, but when Fev hit back to level, it seemed like a matter of time before they overpowered their visitors.

But the Broncos added another converted try to head into the break 18-12 up.

A costly yellow card for Fev just after half-time tipped the balance further in London's favour, and they scored two more tries against the 12 men.

The Broncos added a sixth try on the hour mark to go 36-12 in front, with those in the stands and watching on TV in disbelief at what they were seeing.

Though Fev hit back with three tries in nine minutes, they had left their comeback far too late, and London were able to celebrate a famous victory.

The Broncos will now travel to Toulouse for next Sunday's Million Pound Game, with the winner earning a spot in Super League for 2024.

They will replace Wakefield Trinity, who drop into the Championship after a ghastly season in the top flight, where they won only four league games.
