BOOKIES favourite Danny Cowley has spoken about the “wonderful opportunity” of taking the City job.
Cowley is desperate to get back after being out of the game since January when he was sacked at Portsmouth.
The 44-year-old former Huddersfield boss admits the current vacancies at Valley Parade and Sheffield Wednesday both appeal to him and his brother Nicky.
“We love football and we miss football every day,” he told Sky Sports News.
“It’s the first thing we think about when I wake up and the last thing I think about before I go to bed.
‘Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford City are both huge clubs, fantastic football clubs which mean so much to so many people.
“For Nicky and I, what a wonderful opportunity to be able to work at clubs which mean so much to so many people.
‘The responsibility that you have and influence you can have on something which means so much to so many people. This is incredible and why ultimately we love football.
‘So, yes, we’re missing football and looking forward to getting back in.”
Cowley is the 2/1 favourite with BetVictor to replace Mark Hughes, who was dismissed by City last night after nearly 20 months at the Valley Parade helm.
He won the National League and League Two with Lincoln before spending a season in the Championship at the Huddersfield helm in 2019.
Cowley added: “For Nicky and I what’s really important is to try to find a club which is self aware to know where it is today and has clarity on where it wants to go in the future.
‘Once you know the starting point and the destination, you can then work out if you have the skillset to maybe put stepping stones in place.
“This is ultimately what we’re looking for and, yes, we’re looking forward to seeing what the coming days and weeks bring.’ Leam Richardson, who steered Wigan to the League One title two seasons, is also high on the list with the bookies at 6/1.
Former Crewe boss David Artell is another frontrunner at eights and current Gateshead manager Mike Williamson is 12/1.
Kevin McDonald, who has been put in caretaker charge at City, is the same price – as well as ex-Southampton, Luton and Stoke chief Nathan Jones and Neil Warnock.
